About Rebirthing Breathwork

Rebirthing breathwork is a gentle yet powerful way for people to uncover and release physical, mental and emotional blocks through the intentional use of sustained breathing practices undertaken while in a deeply relaxed state. It connects the breather with their body’s natural healing mechanism - the breath - by guiding them into a gentle circular nasal breathing rhythm that replicates the breath of a new-born baby.

When a person breathes in this way, their body is able to shift into a deeply relaxed state where rest, repair, recovery and release are possible. The primary intention of rebirthing breathwork is relaxation, but other possible side-benefits are the release of physical or emotional pain or trauma, release of old and unhelpful thought patterns or habits, increased connection with the divine and feelings of absolute bliss!

Rebirthing Breathwork was created/discovered by spiritual author Leonard Orr in the USA in the 1960s following his own spontaneous experiences of rebirthing in the bath. Rebirthing was originally done in a hot tub. Over time, Leonard Orr realised that rebirthing could be done without water. This is the version of Rebirthing that was taught by Leonard Orr to my teacher, Daniel Coates, and to me.

Leonard Orr believed that Rebirthing should be taught in close conjunction with spiritual purification through the five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether.

How does Rebirthing Breathwork work?

The mechanism of breathing in a conscious connected way helps the body to release emotional and physical pain that has been stored or ‘locked’ in the body. Rebirthing Breathwork is typically done through the nose, and the ‘seed’ breath replicates that of a new-born baby. When we are born, we have the natural ability to heal and calm ourselves with our breath, but as we go about our busy and stressful lives, we forget to use this technique that is so readily available to all of us. Rebirthing Breathwork brings us back to the simple yet powerful capacity for breath to unblock what has been stuck in our lives, emotions and bodies.

Rebirthing breathwork has been known to completely change people’s lives, but it does so in subtle and gentle ways, over a sustained period of time. It’s a simple yet powerful way of releasing trauma from the body and mind and establishing new ways of being and doing in the world.

At the end of 10 sessions, it’s likely you’ll hear things like ”you’ve changed” or “you’re different” - and YOU will feel different, too. And, by that stage, you’ll have the tools to guide yourself into a rebirthing session, and a simple yet powerful tool to help you continue to shift energy and emotions throughout your life. Who would have thought that the very tool we need to heal ourselves is right with us, every moment of the day, if only we knew how to use it properly?! It’s so simple, it’s magical!

Who is Rebirthing Breathwork for?
